As an agent to the government, RDD implements various concessionary Loan Schemes targeting Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (MSMEs). The objectives of implementing thesre schemes are as follows;

  1. Expanding access to finance through credit supplementation to generate employment opportunities
  2. Reduce income disparity of underserved and vulnerable segments of the country

Funding for these schemes are provided by Central Bank of Sri Lanka , Government of Sri Lanka and Donor agencies.

The credit schemes implemented by the RDD are mainly two-fold.

Central Bank of Sri Lanka

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) is the apex institution in the financial sector in Sri Lanka. It was established in 1950 under the Monetary Law Act No. 58 of 1949 (MLA). The CBSL Act No. 16 of 2023 enacted in September 2023, superseded the MLA making CBSL an autonomous and accountable body,  governed by the Governing Board of the CBSL.
