Anuradhapura

The 2nd Regional Office of the CBSL has commenced its operations in Anuradhapura on 20th March, 1982 and administrative district, Anuradhapura was the initial area allocated to RO-Anuradhapura. In line with primary objective of establishing CBSL regional offices, RO – Anuradhapura was also actively engaged in narrowing the gap between grassroot level people and banking system through various awareness programmes, surveys and field visits and discussions and by implementing various credit lines.

With the time, RO- Anurdhapura extended the footprint and at present RO covers North Central Province and North-Western Province including 04 districts Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kurunegala and Puttalam. RO-Anuradhapura was also maintained the regional clearing house.

While widening the geographical coverage, RO extended its services to focus on developing and promoting to productive sectors in the respective regions to achieve balanced economic development among the regions. Accordingly, various region-specific projects and conducting awareness and skill development programmes were conducted and various credit-lines were introduced.

Even though RO-Anuradhapura only engaged in Clearing House functions as CBSL extended service at the inception and started handling currency operations in year 1990, later on RO-Anuradhapura engaged in providing several other CBSL functions at regional level such as EPF functions, sale of commutative coins and CBSL publications, importantly RO- Anuradhapura also established a currency museum on 05.09.2008.
